NGCSU Connect-Ed

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s)

Today we are forced to prepare for situations that we never could have anticipated happening and recognize the important role that immediate communication plays in keeping students safe.  As part of our comprehensive security plan, we have added the Connect-Ed service because of its successful track record and multi-modal capabilities that will allow us to keep students and staff informed whether they are in their dorms, sitting in front of their computers, or on their way to class.

The university recently implemented the service to provide campus leaders and security professionals the ability to reach all students with information and updates during unforeseen events or emergencies, within minutes, through phone calls, e-mails and/or text messages.

The Connect-Ed service enables campus leaders to schedule, send, and track personalized voice messages to up to six phone numbers per person, and immediately sends messages via four different modes of communication:

  1. Voice messages to home, work, and cell phone
  2. Text messages to cell phones, PDAs and other text-based devices
  3. Written messages to e-mail accounts
  4. Messages to TTY/TDD receiving devices for the hearing impaired

It is essential for students to enter all of their contact information into the Connect-Ed database.  The more means we have to contact individuals, the better our odds are of spreading timely information and updates and keeping everyone safe.

Contact information included in the Connect-Ed service will only be used for campus emergency notifications and will not be made available to any other service.

FAQ’S

How has the Connect-Ed system been used?
The Connect-Ed system has been used to communicate vital information when a critical situation has taken place.  It is also used to issue alerts to campus members as outlined in the Clery Act.  Additionally, some campuses use the service for more routine communication, including communicating during the admissions process and to alert students to important financial aid and/or payment deadlines.

Does Connect-Ed share the school’s information with anyone?
No.  Connect-Ed does not sell, lease, share, or rent personally identifiable information (names, addresses, phone numbers, etc.) to any companies or persons outside of Connect-Ed.

To add one or more phone numbers to the Connect-Ed service, students, faculty and staff can submit their information through their Banner account.
