When creating your Faculty/Staff web page, please follow these simple rules:
| |
| 1. |
All of your files need to be copied to your P Drive under the folder called "Public_html" (If you are mapped for Peoplesoft and still want to create a web page, you need to e-mail helpdesk@ngcsu.edu and request a personal drive other than your P Drive.) |
| 2. |
All of your files should follow an 8.3 naming convention. This means that the file name should be 8 characters or less and the file extension should be 3 characters (i.e., rulerone.gif, computer.jpg, index.htm, etc.) |
| 3. |
IIT is not responsible for your files so you should always create a separate folder on your hard drive to contain all of the files used in your web page. This is where you should update and edit your files until you are ready to copy them to P:\Public_html. The following is an example of this: |
| |
| |
| Hard Drive folder below is "Public_html": |
Files look like this after copied from "C:\Public_html" to "P:\Public_html": |
| |
| 4. |
Your HOME PAGE should be called index.htm |
| 5. |
The NGCSU Web Policy requires that you include the following statement on your web page (preferably on your opening page):
| |
THIS PAGE IS NOT A PUBLICATION OF NORTH GEORGIA COLLEGE & STATE UNIVERSITY AND NGCSU HAS NOT EDITED OR EXAMINED THE CONTENT OF THE PAGE. THE AUTHOR(S) OF THE PAGE ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CONTENT. |
| |
| 6. |
To review your pages on the web before your link goes live, from Internet Explorer, type the following URL: |
http://radar.ngcsu.edu/~xxxxxxxx/index.htm
(xxxxxxxx=your login ID (i.e., jmchan for Judy McHan) |
Judy's web page can be found at: http://radar.ngcsu.edu/~jmchan/index.htm |
Note: If you type the wrong URL for your web page, you will get a "403 Forbidden" error. |
Definition of URL: Uniform Resource Locator in an Internet address which tells a browser where to find an Internet resource. For example, the URL for North Georgia College & State University is http://www.ngcsu.edu |
| 7. |
Once you have completed your web page, your should e-mail Judy McHan at jmchan@ngcsu.edu to create a live link to your web page under the Faculty/Staff Web Pages. |
