The above file folder game is designed for use with children in the early stages of phonic knowledge. Children are directed to place each picture into a pocket by matching the beginning sounds. If you write your directions so they can be changed, this file folder could be used for a variety of purposes.
The above file folder game is designed for use with children working on long and short vowel sounds. Children are directed to place pictures of cheese with words (mat) containing the vowel /a/ into one of the two briefcases. Notice that some pieces of cheese do NOT have words written on them. This allows the students to demonstrate their knowledge of long and short vowel sounds by creating their own "cheese words".
The back of the file folder game has baggies attached over the briefcase openings. When children place a "cheese word" into a briefcase, it is collected in the appropriate bags. This makes it easier to check their answers. Remember that file folder games are best used as a practice activity. This activity by itself does NOT "teach" anything. While planning your lesson, you must remember to teach the skill or process first. How will you do that? |
