Dr. Victoria L. McCard
Professor of Spanish

Dr. McCard is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She has undergraduate and Master's degrees
in Spanish from the University of Georgia. Her doctorate is from Emory University,
where she specialized in twentieth century Spanish poetry and twentieth century Latin
American poetry and prose. She lived in Spain for two years and has traveled extensively
in Latin America, western Europe, India, and the Middle East. In addition to teaching,
Dr. McCard enjoys jogging, weight-lifting and being an advocate for social justice issues.
Dr. Gordon E. McNeer
Professor of Spanish

Dr. McNeer is of Mexican-American descent. His mother was born in Sonora, Mexico,
in the year of the Mexican Revolution. He earned his B.A. in Spanish and his M.A. and
Ph.D. in Romance Languages from Princeton University. He has taught on the faculties
of Princeton University, the University of Florida, the University of California
{Berkeley} and Agnes Scott College. He has worked and studied in Germany and Spain
and he has visited Mexico and Guatemala on many occasions. His area of specialization
is in the Spanish lyric tradition, with a concentration in 20th century peninsular Spanish
poetry. He is the Director of the Studies Abroad program in Santander, Spain.

Dr. Kristi Hislope
Associate Professor of Spanish

Dr. Hislope is a native of Somerset, Kentucky.
She received her B.S. degree in Spanish and
Industrial Technology from Morehead State University,
her M.A. in Spanish and Latin American Literature
from the University of Kentucky, and her doctorate
in Spanish Linguistics from Purdue University. Her area of specialization
is second language acquisition. In addition to
teaching Spanish, she has also taught English-as-a-Second-Language.
Dr. Hislope enjoys travel, films, quilting, mosaics, college basketball, and is very fond of animals.

Dr. Elizabeth Combier
Associate Professor of Spanish

Elizabeth Combier graduated with a BA in French and Political
Science from Augusta College. As an undergraduate, she studied at the
University of Dijon in France. She completed her Masters in French from
the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
Her thesis research was done in Versailles at the Bibliotheque
Nacional on plays by Moliere. She subsequently lived abroad for many years
in France, Mexico, and Quebec, Canada before completing her doctoral studies in Spanish
at the University of Georgia. Her interest is seventeenth-century
peninsular theatre with a specialization in Tirso de Molina.
Dr. Combier has extensive experience in all areas
of live theatre in many venues, including community theatre,
university theatre, dinner theatre and film.
She looks forward to directing many plays at NGCSU in Spanish or French.

Ms. Mariana Stone
Language Lab Director and Instructor of Spanish

Mrs. Mariana Stone was born in La
Pampa, Argentina.
She did her undergraduate work at the National University of La Pampa
where she received a degree in Educational Science with a concentration in
learning theories.
Ms. Stone received her M.A. degree in Spanish Linguistics
from the University of Florida in Gainesville,
where she specialized in language acquisition.
Her favorite pastimes are time at home with her kids,
time outdoors in the spring, and movies in the winter.
