Welcome to NGCSU

Department of Nursing

Health and Natural Sciences Bldg.

The Department of Nursing was established in 1974 with the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing  program. The nursing department has continued to expand with the addition of the Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing program on the main campus, ASN Satellite Programs  in Cumming and Gainesville, Georgia,  and an LPN / RN Bridge Program .  Our Master of Science / Family Nurse Practitioner Program  was established in 1998, and our newest program is the Master of Science in Nursing Education (2006).

The North Georgia College and State University is a senior military institution and the Corps of Cadets and military tradition play an integral role in campus life.  Under a recent agreement with the U.S. Army, the Department of Nursing is  proud of our designation as a Partner in Nursing Education with the U.S. Army.  We are also proud to welcome a number of Corps of Cadets to our Nursing Programs.

In 2002 NGCSU received the designation of Leadership Institution and fully implemented a leadership initiative across campus.  Through this initiative students in all programs of study are afforded opportunities to complete a minor in Leadership either associated with their Military program of study or their chosen major, and participate in leadership projects on campus.  In addition, students and faculty may apply for grant funding to assist them in their education through the leadership initiative program.

The practice of nursing has changed dramatically in the last several years. Nurses who participate and guide these changes must reflect a sound commitment to the profession and rigorous preparation. We, the nursing Faculty and Staff, have much to offer our nursing students as they pursue their personal, educational, and career goals. All programs of study are designed to develop proficiency in technical and professional skills through which caring will flourish, to stimulate scientific inquiry, to promote use of self enrichment activities, to prepare for immediate employment, and to encourage understanding for different viewpoints while respecting the rights of all individuals.

Welcome from the Department Head!
