Welcome!

The Department of Chemistry is an exciting place to learn chemistry, participate in undergraduate research, develop skills to pursue further education, involve yourself in chemistry outreach and build on the liberal arts mission of North Georgia College & State University. The Department offers a major and minor in chemistry and a major in chemical education. The major in chemistry is ideal for those that want to pursue a graduate degree in chemistry, education or other related field; or those that want to apply to professional schools such as pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, optometry, and others; or those that want to enter industry or government with a bachelor's degree. Chemistry majors take the required general chemistry and fundamental courses in inorganic, organic, physical, analytical and biochemistry and then enroll in upper-level, advanced and research courses to design a degree to fit their goals.

Chemistry at North Georgia is rigorous with a very low faculty to student ratio and small classes. All classes, including laboratories, are taught by full-time faculty. The Department is well equipped with modern instrumentation that students are trained to use. Undergraduate research is encouraged for chemistry majors and frequently results in a presentation at a regional or national scientific conference. The Chemistry Club, a student affiliate group of the American Chemical Society, provides chemistry and other majors a social outlet and place to plan chemistry outreach events, host outside speakers or tour chemistry laboratories. Graduates are placed with a high rate of success in industry, graduate school and professional schools (pharmacy, medical, dental, etc.).

I hope you take the opportunity to explore the Department's website and consider chemistry as an option. The faculty and staff are approachable and will be happy to answer any question. For perspective students, I invite you to tour the North Georgia campus and Rogers Hall to see exciting chemistry in action!
