North Georgia requires that the Praxis I examination be
passed or exempted before accepting any student in any Teacher Education program. The Praxis series tests
are produced by ETS and much more information about the tests and registration is available at
the ETS web
site:
http://www.ets.org/praxis/index.html.
Praxis I is a basic skills test covering reading, writing and mathematics. A composite
score of 526 is required to pass the Praxis I in Georgia. The composite score is the sum of
your scores on the three tests.
You may exempt Praxis I if you can provide proof of any
of the following:
| SAT |
Minimum required score 1000 (with no minimum verbal or math score required) |
| ACT |
Minimum required score 43 (with no minimum English or math score required |
| GRE |
Minimum required score 1030 (with no minimum verbal or quantitative score) |
|
Candidates must take both sections of any test. The institutional SAT
(ISAT) which may be used to establish Praxis exemption is given by the
Testing Office.

The paper and pencil version of Praxis I is given in various locations around the state in
September, November, January, March, April and June. Registration closes about one month before the test
and scores are returned about six weeks after the test. Plan ahead to allow ample time for us to receive
scores. The computerized version is given by appointment at testing centers around the state. Score
reports are generated more quickly, but you should still allow about six weeks for us to receive results.
Praxis II involves one or more content area tests taken near the conclusion of a program. Visit the
Educator
Testing Section
of the Professional Standards Commission web site to determine the currently required test for each
certification area. These tests are only given in a paper and pencil formats on the dates indicated above.
