IMPORTANT FACTS FOR STUDENTS:

1. All students wanting to major in Physical Education (Exercise Science) are required to apply for admission in January of their sophomore year (one application period per year).
   
   
2. Admission to the major requires a GPA of 2.75 or higher with a minimum of 40 semester hours completed, successfully completing Area A with a grade of “C” or better in all courses, completing both BIOL 2250 and BIOL 2251 (Area F) with a grade of “C” or better, and completing a request for a criminal background check.
   
   
3. PHED 3350, PHED 3380, PHED 3380L, PHED 4430, PHED 4430L, PHED 4470 and PHED 4480:  Admission to Exercise Science or permission from the instructor required for enrollment.  Check the current catalog for other prerequisite requirements.
   
   
4. PHED 4490:  Admission to Exercise Science and permission from the instructor required for enrollment.  Meetings and paperwork need to be completed one to two semesters in advance of actual internship experience.  Check the current catalog for other prerequisite requirements.All Physical Education majors are required to hold current CPR & Basic First Aid Certification during their Internship experience.
   
   
5. PHED 3012, PHED 3014 and PHED 3023:  Prerequisite is declared HPE major or permission of the instructor.
   
   
6. PHED 4450 and PHED 4460:  Prerequisite is BIOL 2250 and BIOL 2251 or permission of the instructor.
   
   
7. Regents’ Test:  Needs to be completed before you have earned 45 semester hours of credit.
   
   
8. The Core Curriculum requirement (Area A) needs to be completed before 60 semester hours.
   
   
9. An approved Plan Of Study (POS) needs to be in the Registrar’s Office before 90 semester hours have been completed.
   
   
10. Competency in Communication Skills requirement:  Need to complete two writing intensive courses (W), with at least one writing course in the student’s academic major, and one course with an oral communication component (O).
