Finance Major

Finance consists of three interrelated areas: money and capital markets, investments, and financial management.  The money and capital markets area focuses on sources of funds for businesses including stock and bond markets and financial institutions such as banks.  The money and capital markets area is also concerned with economic decisions and monetary policy decisions.  The investments area focuses on financial planning services, securities brokerage and analysis of alternative investment strategies including investments in real estate.  The financial management area focuses on managing the financial functions of businesses including but not limited to investment funds acquisition, resource acquisition, and risk management.

A finance degree prepares graduates for a wide variety of professional careers in such industries as banking, securities and investments, insurance, real estate, financial planning, and corporate finance.  A finance professional can choose a career path that will allow them to work either independently or within a team environment.  If you are seriously interested in understanding stocks, bonds, insurance, risk analysis, risk management, real estate, loans, banking, credit markets, asset acquisition, raising capital to start a business, forecasting, analyzing and choosing investments to meet financial goals, cash management, and retirement planning, then the finance program at NGCSU will keep you informed and up to date with the latest developments in this dynamic field.

Finance faculty at NGCSU use case studies and simulations along with traditional teaching methods in the classroom.  In addition finance faculty continually integrate current issues and technology into the finance curriculum.  NGCSU’s finance graduates frequently gain high profile positions and have enhanced opportunities to advance into top management and graduate studies.
