Business Administration Program on the Gainesville State College campus. This
information is not intended to replace advising or the University Bulletin.
Information is subject to change.
Who Can take NGCSU Courses at Gainesville:
In order to take NGCSU classes on the Gainesville State College
Campus, students must be admitted to NGCSU. Any student who is currently
admitted to NGCSU and who meets the prerequisites for the courses taught on the
Gainesville campus may register for GN sections of courses. When courses
are taught in both Dahlonega and Gainesville, evening students will be given
preference for the evening sections.
If a student is admitted for a specific semester and fails to
register for any NGCSU courses during that semester, the student is not eligible
to register for future semesters without contacting NGCSU Admissions.
Also, if a student does not enroll in any course during a Fall or Spring
semester, the student must contact NGCSU Admissions prior to returning to
school. In both of these cases, the Admissions Office must be contacted by
the deadline for applications for the semester that the student plans to enroll.
When Courses are Offered:
The Mike Cottrell School of Business offers courses on the
Gainesville State College campus Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Although
not always possible, most major specific courses for Finance and Management are
scheduled for Monday and Wednesday evenings; most major specific courses for
Accounting and Marketing are scheduled for Tuesday or Thursday evenings.
Common Professional Component courses are scheduled in an attempt to create as
few potential conflicts for students as possible. The frequency of
offerings is established to accommodate part-time students. Students who
wish to maintain a full-time schedule may need to take some courses during the
day on the Dahlonega campus.
Finals for Gainesville classes are held during the final dates
set by NGCSU but on a time schedule established so that final times will match
regularly scheduled class times as closely as possible. The finals
schedule will be posted on the bulletin board outside the Gainesville State
College
University Center as well as on this website along with the Historical and Anticipated Schedules.
During
Fall (mid-August mid-December) and Spring (early January early May) semesters, courses meet in
one of two formats:
one night a week
7:05 – 9:55
two nights a week
5:30 6:55 Monday
and Wednesday or
5:30 6:55
Tuesday and Thursday
Summer semester (early June – early August) is approximately half as long as the other semesters; therefore
classes meet more often and fewer
courses can be completed during the semester. The exact times
change slightly from year to year but have been approximately:
two nights a week
5:30 - 8:00
Monday and Wednesday
5:30 - 8:00
Tuesday and Thursday
8:10 - 10:40
Monday and Wednesday
8:10 - 10:40
Tuesday and Thursday
Where Classes are Taught:
NGCSU teaches courses on the Gainesville State College campus located
in Oakwood, GA. Gainesville State College is located just west of Exit 16 of
I-985. Most classes meet in Dunlap/Mathis building, a building near the
front of campus between the two entrances to campus. The actual building
and room locations for
classes are posted on the Gainesville State College
University Center (GCUC) website (not the NGCSU website). In addition, building and room
numbers will be posted on the NGCSU Bulletin Board outside the University Center
in 101 Dunlap/Mathis on the Gainesville State College campus.
What Courses are Required:
The B.B.A. degree requires at least 120 semester hours plus 3 hours of
wellness/physical education. Within the hours submitted for graduation
each student must satisfy the Area A-F requirements plus the specific course
requirements identified for the selected major. If a student takes the
recommended courses in Areas A-F, the courses required in the Common
Professional Component, and the 7 required major specific courses, an additional
9-12 hours of elective coursework will be needed to meet the graduation
requirements.
The courses required for each major are listed in the
Undergraduate Bulletin and on the Plan
of Study form. Each student must have a completed Plan of Study on
file in the Office of the Registrar prior to the completion of 90 semester
hours. Students must meet with their advisor in order to complete the Plan
of Study.
How to Select Electives:
If a student meets the Areas A-F requirements with courses other than those that
are recommended by NGCSU, the student may be required to take the recommended
courses as part of the elective hours (e.g., students who transfer from another
University System of Georgia school may have completed Area F for Business
Administration at that school without taking Business Communication; these
students are not exempt from the requirement that they must complete at least 3
semester hours of communications prior to graduation. The 3 semester hour
requirement for these students may be met by some other 3 semester hour
communication course that was included in their core or by using elective hours
to take a communications course.)
Electives may include any undergraduate NGCSU courses numbered 1000 or higher
except Wellness, activity PE courses, and courses taken to satisfy high school
deficiencies. In addition, electives may include courses that do not
satisfy any specific requirement but have been accepted by NGCSU as transfer
credit. Electives may be, but are not required to be, courses taught
through the Mike Cottrell School of Business.
Students should select electives based on personal interest, career objectives,
personal time constraints, pasted academic coursework (e.g., so that
prerequisites are met), and course availability. Electives from one major
may be used as credit toward a second major.
How to Complete Lower Level Course Requirements:
North Georgia College & State University does not teach freshman and sophomore
level courses on the Gainesville State College campus. Therefore, if a student
intends to complete a B.B.A. degree on the Gainesville campus and enters the
program without all freshman and sophomore level courses completed, the student
will need to meet these requirements through some other approach.
Possibilities include: taking the courses from NGCSU in Dahlonega (usually
during the day), earning CLEP credit (where available), or taking the course(s)
as a transient student at another school (following guidelines set by both
schools).
