U.S. and
Georgia History Requirements
Georgia law requires that all candidates for a degree from
an institution supported by public funds shall pass an
examination on the history of the United States and the
state of Georgia. At North Georgia College and State
University, this requirement can be met by taking any one of
the following courses: HIST 2111 or HIST 2112 or POLS 1101.
Students transferring any one of these courses to NGCSU from
University System of Georgia or non-University System of Georgia institutions may have met the
state-mandated requirements.
The
Department of History provides two exams, one in U.S.
History and one in Georgia History, to meet the state
mandate. Each exam consists of 40 or more
multiple-choice questions. A passing score of 70 percent is
required (28 correct answers). Exams will be given once each
semester. Students wishing to take an exam must make an
appointment at least one week in advance with the History
Department Head.
Students will only be permitted to take each exam once in a
given semester or once during the summer.
