Policy on College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), Advanced Placement Credit, International Baccalaureate (IB), and Credit by Departmental Examination
North Georgia College & State University offers college credit by examination through the College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), the Defense Activities for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), the Advanced Placement (AP) Program, the International Baccalaureate (IB), and departmental examinations. The following rules govern the awarding of credit by examination.
- Credit will be awarded only after a student has been admitted to North Georgia College & State University.
- A student who is currently enrolled in the course or has earned a grade other than a W in the course may not earn CLEP, or DANTES credit for the course.
- North Georgia College & State University does not awarded course credit through the CLEP General Examinations. Only CLEP Subject Examinations may be used for the awarding of CLEP examination credit.
- Any academic department may award credit based on departmental examinations.
- CLEP, DANTES, AP, IB, and departmental examination credits carry no academic grade and are not computed into the grade point average (GPA).
- The total amount of course credit awarded by examination (CLEP, DANTES, Advanced Placement credit, and credit by departmental examination) may not exceed 30 semester hours (24 hours for IB).
- Students should be aware that medical, dental and other professional schools may not recognize CLEP, DANTES, IB, and AP examination course credit.
