The President and Vice President from the University of Hassan II in Morocco have traveled a long way to work on a partnership with Gainesville State College (GSC).

GSC President Dr. Martha T. Nesbitt says University of Hassan II President Rahma Bourqia and Vice President for Academic Affairs Nabil Benchekroun are in the states to explore further collaborative partnerships among the institutions.

"What we're working on is possible faculty exchanges, student exchanges, and then information exchanges," Nesbitt said.

She said the University of Hassan II is especially interested in learning more about GSC's geographic information system and technical theatre program.

In February of 2007, a delegation which included individuals from Gainesville State College, Kennesaw State University, North Georgia College and State University and the University of West Georgia traveled to the University of Hassan II with the same purpose: to work on an international partnership.

While in Georgia, the Hassan II Delegation will participate in a variety of events and activities which are designed to promote a global purpose and deeper cultural understanding.

"It's all part of the Global Initiative to provide more opportunities for international education for both our students and our faculty and staff," Nesbitt said.

Nesbitt said she hopes to have a University of Hassan II faculty member teaching at Gainesville State in the Fall.
