Road work continues in two campus areas

Construction work on the Sunset Dr. extension

Construction work on the Sunset Drive extension

DAHLONEGA –  To improve safety of pedestrians crossing West Main Street at Sunset Drive, the street between Rogers Hall and Sanford Hall on the North Georgia College & State University campus is being rerouted to create an extension of Sunset with appropriate turn lanes. The construction will continue until mid-November.

To walk from the Drill Field area to the Health & Natural Sciences Building, pedestrians may use the courtyard behind Rogers Hall to access the steps to Main Street. From the Main Street crosswalk, a temporary sidewalk leads to Sunset. Students with disabilities may proceed on the street between the Student Center and Young Hall to College Circle, then to the sidewalk beside Main Street to the crosswalk.

Meanwhile, to benefit motor vehicle and pedestrian traffic, Sunset Drive has been extended to Highway 9. The HNS Building and a new Physical Plant and Materials Management building, to be completed in September, are both located on the street.

“Faculty, staff and commuting students will be able to use the new road to access the Health & Natural Sciences parking lot,” said Gerald Lord, NGCSU associate vice president for Business and Finance. “The Physical Plant and Materials Management traffic will be able to make deliveries to the new facility from the Highway 9 entrance.”

While commercial trucks traveling to the Physical Plant and Materials Management building will be required to enter Sunset Drive from Highway 9, faculty, staff and student vehicles may still enter from West Main Street. public.
