Commonly Asked Questions about Enrollment

1.  I have a master’s degree from another university.  I want to get graduate credit for the ESOL endorsement courses.  How do I apply?

You need to apply as a post-graduate applicant to Graduate Studies.  You fill out the graduate application and education majors form.  You will have to pay a  $40 one-time application fee since you do not have your master’s from NGCSU.  You need to have an updated immunization form on file (which includes proof of tetanus within the last 10 years).  If you are working toward the Med degree, you also need to apply to the Teacher Education Program and submit PRAXIS scores.

2.  I have a master’s degree from NGCSU.  I want to get graduate credit for the ESOL endorsement courses.  How do I apply?

You do not need to pay the application fee. You would submit the graduate application and education majors form.  Also, you would need to update your immunization record to show proof of tetanus within the last ten years.

3.  Can ESOL endorsement credit count toward the specialist degree?

          No.

4.  I do not want grad credit for the endorsement.  What do I do?

If you do not want the degree, you can enter as non-degree seeking.  In this way, you do not have to apply to the Teacher Ed program.  If you simply want PLU credits, all you need to do is submit the application to mpstone@ngcsu.edu (see website for application).

5.  I have an undergraduate degree in Education, but no Master’s degree.  I want college credit for the endorsement classes.  What do I do?

You need to apply to Graduate Studies, pay a $40 application fee, submit undergraduate transcripts from each institution you attended (not necessary if you graduated from NGCSU), submit three form letters of recommendation, and submit an immunization form.  You do not need a GRE or MAT score.  However, you may not continue with graduate courses beyond the ESOL classes without an entrances test score.

6.  I want graduate credit as a post-bac student.  What do I do?

If you are already admitted to the Teacher Ed Post-Bac program, you should check with your advisor about when you should take the ESOL courses.  You do not have to reapply to either Graduate Studies or Teacher Ed.  If you have not been admitted to the Post-Bac program, you first must apply and be accepted by Graduate Studies, then you apply to Teacher Ed with the Teacher Ed Application which requires Praxis scores.
