- They have several ways of tracking a package
- Express mail is delivered even on Sunday. There must be a person present to sign for the package, for no extra charge.
Disadvantages:
- Bulk mail must be at the Dahlonega Post Office by 4:00, with postage or money and appropriate forms.
- We receive mail in the mornings, Monday thru Friday. Our last delivery to the Dahlonega Post Office leaves NGCSU at 3:30 pm. Anything dropped into the inside mail slots at the campus post office after our final mail run to the Dahlonega Post Office will not leave until the next afternoon. The Dahlonega Post Office closes at 5:00 pm.
- You cannot track an insured, certified, cod or registered mail on the computer effective 4-20-01, but the local Post Office can track them for you.
- No delivery date is guaranteed by the Post Office except for Express Mail
Procedure for doing a Bulk mailing
- For bulk mail to be metered, appropriate forms must be ready to go with the mailing and a charge slip must be sent with mailing. If the bulk mailing is not metered but postage permit number is imprinted the correct forms and the correct money or check must be included to take to the Dahlonega post office.
- To send a bulk mailing you must have at least 200 pieces. Forms may be printed from your computer. Most will use 3602-NZ. New procedures for Bulk or Standard Mail include:
- No rubber bands
- No stickers
- At least 3 trays
- 1 for 305 zip codes
- 1 for 306 zip codes
- 1 for everything else (mixed AADC)
- For additional information, see Form 240b.
- To figure postage you need the following information:
- total # of pieces
- Total pieces per pound
- Total weight
- Rates are subject to change but they average around .173 per piece currently. Postage forms are current with rates.
- Disadvantage: unless you put an "address service requested" notice on the front of the mailing pieces - the piece is trashed if the address is incorrect. If they do give you an address correction they charge extra.
Procedure for Certified Mail:
First class mail that when used with a return receipt gives you a signature proof that the mail was delivered with a date and the person's signature. You can restrict delivery to one person if needed. All necessary forms must be filled out correctly and brought to the campus Post Office intact. To allow for correct verification of the letter, write your department name or campus box number on the receipt. Once the Dahlonega Post Office has logged amounts, then your tracking number and receipt will be returned promptly. The present cost for a 1 oz. letter is $5.32.
Procedure for Insured Mail:
Allows you the opportunity to insure a package for the value of the merchandize. If for some reason, you have to file a claim you must have a receipt or be able to prove the value. Postage is determined by dollar value of insurance.
Procedure for Express Mail:
You need to fill out the express label and leave all forms intact. These are not considered official until the Dahlonega Post Office signs them in. You need their signature if you are going to track or file a claim. Your copy will be returned to you after the postal clerk has signed off on it. Please type or write hard as there are several copies.
Procedure for Delivery Confirmation:
Fill out form, bar code # is your tracking number.
Registered Mail:
Is for mail with high dollar value. It is not necessary for all high dollar value mail to be sent registered. Registered mail is mostly reserved for international mail, where the postal systems are not trustworthy. Registered mail is kept in a safe, from Post Office to recipient.
Library Mail:
This is a special rate for mail going from one Library to another.
Media Mail:
Is used for printed documents or books - much cheaper than first class but slower.
Priority Mail:
This is first class mail or a package weighing over one pound. Or it can be requested for a letter. The post office will try to deliver as soon as possible, but no delivery date is guaranteed.
