Travel

As a nonimmigrant in the U.S., you are required to carry proof of your status with you at all times. This means that, particularly when you leave the Dahlonega area, you should have with you your I-94. It is advisable also to carry your passport and your I-20, or photocopies of them.

You should always keep photocopies of your important documents in a safe place, in case the original should be lost. The ISSO will also have photocopies of your documents on file. If you renew your passport or visa, you should bring the new document by the ISSO for photocopying.

When you travel outside the United States temporarily, you will need to have the third page of your I-20 endorsed for travel before you leave. Any of North Georgia's DSOs can sign for you if the ISSO is closed, but you might experience a wait at another office while your status is verified.

If you forget to have your I-20 endorsed for travel before you leave, you will be pulled aside for secondary inspection when you return to the U.S. You will be given an I-515A and an I-94 which allows you to stay in the U.S. for only 30 days. Bring the I-515A to the ISSO as soon as you return to campus, along with your I-20, and we will work to get your conditional admission extended to "duration of status."
