Training In The Army Reserve

There are a wide range of training opportunities available such as airborne training, military police, medical, and much more.

The Georgia Mountain Detachment

There are more than 700 cadets at North Georgia, and many of them serve as soldiers in the Army Reserve while attending school.
North Georgia is the only university to have an Army Reserve Detachment on its campus.

Conducting Reserve training on campus lets the student-soldier become familiar with other job specialties in the Army Reserve through their peers, and to become more proficient leaders, developing the best future officers for the Regular Army or the Army Reserve.

Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP)

The ROTC/SMP allows you to be a full-time college student working toward a bachelors degree and participating in both the Army Reserve and in the ROTC program. An officer cadet in the SMP will be paid at the grade of Sergeant (E-5) and earn more than $240 a month during the school year while training one weekend a month with the Army Reserve. A SMP cadet will also receive a stipend of $350 as a sophomore, $450 as a junior, and $500 as a senior.

Army Reserve Benefits

• $329 per month in GI Bill benefits plus an aditional $100-$350 per month kicker.
• Tuition Assistance- U.S. Army Reserve pays most of your tuition and fees.
• Enlistment Bonus- You may be eligible for an enlistment bonus of up to $20,000.
• Guaranteed Reserve Force Duty Scholarship- These scholarships provide financial assistance towards college tuition and educational fees of up to $17,000 annually.
• College Credit for Military Experience- All enlisted soldiers will receive some college credit for their military basic training and MOS training.
• Pay- Army Reservists receive monthly pay for weekend drills and annual training.
