North Georgia is the site for many exciting events such as
the annual National Leadership Conference. The 2006 Leadership
Conference focused on the future of military education in
relation to the current operational environment of the United
States Military. Keynote speakers included Secretary of the
Army Dr. Francis J. Harvey, Chief of Staff of the Army General
Peter Schoomaker, and Commander of the First Army and Joint
Task Force Katrina, Lieutenant General Russel L. Honoré.
Conferences such as these held on the North Georgia Campus help shape

* We are unique in that we are the only university
in the nation with a drilling Guard
and Reserve

* The education and training in leadership you receive at

Why should you consider a commission as a lieutenant in the US Army, National Guard or Reserve?
* A military career will help you succeed throughout your life! Consulting firm Korn/Ferry International, along with the Economist Intelligence Unit, conducted a study in the summer of 2006 that found that former military officers are more likely to rise to the top of American corporations that those who did not serve.

 According to the 14 Jan 2008 Army Times Paybook:
* Starting salary for a Second Lieutenant in the Regular Army with under two years time in service is about $50,000 per year
* Regular Army second lieutenants are promoted to first lieutenant after 18 months time in service, and to captain less than four years after commissioning.
* Pay for captains with four years time in service is about $80,000
* You will have the opportunity to pursue fully-funded post-graduate degrees
* You get 30 days paid vacation every year
* You pay no health insurance
* You pay nothing toward retirement and can retire in 20 years with a significant pension
* You get tremendously valuable experience as junior military officers that they can put on their resumes if they decide to get out to pursue a civilian career after their military service obligation.

To be eligible, you must:
1. Be in good physical condition. For men, this means running two miles in under 16 minutes, doing at least 42 pushups in two minutes and doing at least 53 sit-ups in two minutes. For women, this means running two miles in under 19 minutes, doing at least 19 pushups in two minutes, and doing at least 50 sit-ups in two minutes. It also means not having any physical or mental health limitations that would prevent you from joining the Army. It also means meeting the Army's height and weight standards.
2. Be of good moral character. No felony arrest record.
3. Be less than 30 years old.
4. Be a US citizen. This is required because all Army officers receive a SECRET security clearance.
5. Be in good academic standing with at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
6. Want to serve our country in uniform; want a physically and mentally challenging job; and want to be in a leadership position after you graduate.
