Why NGCSU?

Unit stand up: NGCSU Drill Field

ARMY OF ONE: North Georgia's commitment to train leaders for every component of the U.S. Army became official on Sept. 26, 2004 when the U.S. Army Reserve detachment at NGCSU was activated during the Distinguished Military Student Review on the drill field. Maj. Gen. Charles E. Wilson, deputy commanding general of the U.S. Army Reserve Command, the guest speaker and reviewing officer, presented the guidon, or company flag, to the Georgia Mountain Detachment of the 81st Regional Readiness Command.

US Army Reserve Partnership Program

The United States Army Reserve is the supporting force in the U.S. Army. There are over 200,000 soldiers across the country that serve in the Army Reserve and maintain a lifestyle all their own. As a soldier in the Army Reserve, you'll gain training and job skills you can't get anywhere else that will help you no matter what path you take in life. While serving as little as one weekend a month and two weeks a year in the Army Reserve, you are making a commitment to not only your country, but also to yourself.Airborn Ops: Stringer drop zone. Ambush patrol: Camp Merrill, Dahlonega, GANorth Georgia College and State University is one of six senior military colleges in the nation. Army ROTC and the Corp of Cadets make up the unique military program which produces active duty U.S. Army and Army Reserve officers as well as civilian leaders. There are more than 700 military students at NGCSU, and many of them serve as Soldiers in the Army Reserve while attending school. The military program at North Georgia is a leadership training ground, where students develop fundamental skills in responsibility and character development. Commitment to serve in the military is optional. North Georgia has the distinction of being the only institution of higher learning to have an Army Reserve Detachment on its campus. The Army Reserve Detachment offers soldiers who are enrolled at the university the ability to fulfill their military duties at NGCSU during the school year. Conducting military training on campus lets the student-soldiers become familiar with the other job specialties in the Army Reserve through their peers and become more proficient leaders, developing the best future officers for the Army and the Army Reserve.
