Why NGCSU?

Georgia Army National Guard Partnership Program

You can be a full-time student at North Georgia, participate in the Corps of Cadets, take Army ROTC courses, and be a soldier in the Georgia Army National Guard all at the same time!

North Georgia, one of only six Senior Military Colleges in the country, is the only university with a Army National Guard unit that trains on campus. Our unique partnership with the Georgia Army National Guard would allow you to take advantage of the many financial benefits of being a soldier in the Guard, while maintaining your status as a full-time cadet enrolled in Army ROTC.

There are many significant benefits for you if you join the Georgia Army National Guard and attend North Georgia!

  • Pay – Guard members receive four days pay for a weekend assembly. They also receive active duty pay and allowances during annual training, which is two weeks every year.
  • You can use the pay and benefits you earn from the Georgia Army National Guard to pay all of your college and living expenses at North Georgia, and have spending money left over!
  • Through North Georgia's prestigious Corps of Cadets, you will participate in a world-class leadership development and education program complimented by the training programs of the National Guard, making you very marketable to employers after graduation.
  • If you desire, you can earn a commission as a second lieutenant in the Georgia Army National Guard, or the Regular Army when you graduate and be in one of today's most respected professions.
  • While enrolled at North Georgia, you train one weekend per month with the Guard Detachment on campus. Unlike Guard partnerships at other colleges and universities, you will not need to commute off campus!
  • You will receive $317 per month tax free Montgomery GI Bill for every month you are in college as a full-time student. And depending on your chosen military occupational speciality (MOS), you may be eligible to receive a monthly "kicker" to the GI Bill of an additional $100 to $350.
  • Enlistment Bonus - You may be eligible for an enlistment bonus depending on the unit you join and/or your military occupational specialty.
  • Tuition Assistance - The Guard will pay for your tuition and fees. Military Educational benefits provided by GaARNG in combination with commissioning program at NGCSU equal virtually a “free ride.”
  • Military Installation Services – Guard members can utilize all services available at active duty military installations, i.e. athletic facilities, overnight lodging, dining facilities, etc.
  • Vacation Resort Benefits - Guard members and their families can use accommodations designed and rated specifically for military families. Recreation facilities having military programs are located worldwide with many such facilities throughout the United States.
  • Space Available Flights – Guard members are entitled to travel at no charge on a space available basis on military aircraft within all 50 states and some U.S. territories.
  • VA Home Loans – If you are a member of the Georgia Army National Guard for six years you will be eligible to apply for the VA loan. These loans are guaranteed by the Federal Government and normally require no down payment.

There is a wide range of job opportunities available in the Georgia Guard. You will train in these areas one weekend per month and two weeks every year:

  • Military Intelligence
  • Aviation
  • Medical

 

Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP):

The ROTC/SMP allows you to be a full-time college student working toward an academic degree and participating in both the Army National Guard and in the ROTC program. An Officer Cadet in the SMP will be paid at the grade of Sergeant (E-5) and earn more than $184 a month during the school year while training one weekend a month with the Army National Guard. A member of the Advanced Course will receive a stipend of at least $350 - 400 per academic month. A Cadet can also apply for the ROTC Reserve Forces Duty Scholarships that can pay up to 100% of tuition.

Not everyone can participate! Qualifications:

  • To participate in the North Georgia Guard Partnership Program you must apply and be accepted to North Georgia. The requirements for acceptance to North Georgia state that you must graduate high school with on a college-preparatory curriculum, have at least a 2.5 cumulative high school GPA, and score at least 480 on the Critical Reading and at least 440 on the Math portions of the SAT (ACT -18 Math and 20 English).
  • You must be physically fit and meet the Army's height, weight, mental, and health standards for enlisting in the Guard.
  • You must want to serve your country in uniform, enjoy a physical and mental challenge, and want to be a leader.

Your obligations:

  • Enlist in the National Guard for six years. This enlistment can be shortened if you pursue a commission as a lieutenant. The day you graduate with a bachelor's degree, you will receive an honorable discharge from the Guard and a commission as a lieutenant.
  • Attend Army Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training for your military occupational specialty.
  • Train one weekend per month and two weeks in the summer with your Guard unit and/or the Guard unit on campus.

  3. Contact a Guard Recruiter near your home. If you have problems finding your recruiter, call SFC Bartleson at 706-867-3289, and she will assist you.

Georgia Military Scholarship

You can apply for a "Georgia Military Scholarship" (GMS) at North Georgia. The GMS is a full scholarship that pays for room, meals, tuition, fees, books, uniforms, and when combined with Guard drill pay, and the Montgomery GI Bill, equates to thousands of dollars of spending money on top of your costs to attend.

In order to qualify, you must meet the qualifications to enlist in the Guard; have a 3.0 GPA in a college-prep curriculum; be a resident of Georgia; be nominated by a member of the Georgia General Assembly; and you must score at least 480 on the Critical Reading Component of the SAT and 440 on the Math (or 18 Math and 20 English ACT).
