SAINTS PLACE 11 RUNNERS ON
SSAC ALL-ACADEMIC CROSS COUNTRY TEAM
Dahlonega, Ga. - Southern States Athletic Conference sports information director Greg Black announced today the 2004 conference All-Academic team. North Georgia College & State University placed five women and six men on this years team.
For the women's team, junior's Anna Roller (Commerce, Ga.), Anna Rau (Lawrenceville, Ga.), and Irina Watkins (Varkaus, Finland) were selected to the team as well as sophomore's Patricia Faulkner (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Maricela Jacobo (Dalton, Ga.). Junior's Kelly Parr (Maysville, Ga.) and Matt Temples (Cumming, Ga.) were selected for the men's team as well as sophomore's Jason Geiger (Sugar Hill, Ga.), Jordan Hembree (Carrollton, Ga.), Joseph Register (Freeport, Fla.), and Berne Richardson (Norcross, Ga.).
The Saints led all SSAC institutions with 11 student/athletes making the squad. Berry College, Lee University, and Reinhardt College all qualified nine members on this years team.
The North Georgia women's team finished seventh in the region and fourth in the SSAC while the men's team finished third in the region and second in the conference this season. Watkins and Parr are currently training for the NAIA Nationals this Saturday in Louisville, Ky.
All participating athletes in the 2004 cross country season are eligible to be on the All-Academic team if they are a sophomore or higher and have a 3.25 GPA.
