Cappy found herself holding her position right outside the six-yard box on the cross from Kelly Orear. The ball found the head of the sophomore from Suwanee, who punched it by USC Upstate goalkeeper Diana Wabnitz in the 53rd minute for the 1-0 lead.

Following a one-on-one opportunity on goal by USC Upstate's Caroline Verna, Lady Saints' goalkeeper Leigha Terry knocked the ball away. The was struck so hard during the collision, it headed toward goal. Cummings sprinted toward goal, and knocked it out of bounds before the ball cross the line, preserving the lead.

Both teams had their chances in the second half, as USC Upstate (5-8-2, 4-4 PBC) took seven total shots in the second half. The Spartans missed an opportunity right outside the box, following a hand ball by Kelly Curran. Samantha McClay missed the free kick, hitting the crossbar before going out of bounds. The Spartans missed another opportunity when Melissa Kuhar's header sailed over the top of the goal.

The Lady Saints had their opportunities in the second half as well, when Cappy and Jessica Williams nearly hooked up for a spectacular goal. Williams one-touched a ball with her back to the net, meanwhile Cappy was running full speed towards goal. The ball hit off of Cappy's foot too hard and into the hands of Wabitz.

The Lady Saints return to action Saturday on the road against Lander University in the regular season finale.
