LADY SAINTS FALL TO NORTH ALABAMA
Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University could not overcome the pressure from North Alabama late in the second half, falling 3-1 in the regular season home opener Sunday evening.
Paige Hess scored the game’s first goal for North Alabama on a breakaway in the 17th minute to give the Lions a 1-0 lead early in the contest. Hess took the ball on the left side of the field, beating North Georgia goalkeeper Mary Canon Williams to the far post.
The game stayed 1-0 at the half, before Rhiannon Harrison took a pass off a free kick by Allison Woodman and beat Lady Saints’ goalkeeper Leigha Terry for a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute.
North Georgia brought the score to within one just one minute later when Lauren Cappy took a cross from Jessica Williams and beat North Alabama (2-0-0) goalkeeper Mally Cash in the 69th minute.
Trailing 2-1 with 20 minutes left in the contest, North Georgia had two goals called back when Cappy’s header was called back due to offside call. She had another goal called back due to a foul in the box.
Following the second goal being called back, the Lions’ Teresa Hea took a corner kick from Harrison and headed the ball in for a 3-1 lead in the 78th minute.
North Georgia (0-1-1) hosts the University of Montevallo at 6 pm on Tuesday.
