LADY SAINTS FALL IN PRESEASON OPENER
Honolulu, HI – North Georgia College & State University fell to Spring Arbor University 2-0 in an exhibition match at the Kick ‘N Surf Tournament in Hawaii Monday morning.
Although dropping the contest, head coach Chris Adams was pleased with his team’s effort in their first contest of the fall.
“We played extremely hard,” Adams said. “It looked like the first game of the year, but we played against a quality opponent. There is no shame in losing to an opponent of that quality. We got what we wanted out of the contest, everyone that was healthy got to play.”
The Lady Saints had one scoring chance midway through the second half, but Lauren Cappy’s shot went wide. That was the only scoring threat that the Lady Saints could muster in a game shortened to 80 minutes, with just two 40-minute halves.
“We were just a little disconnected,” Adams said. “They had the run of play for the game, and we just allowed too many penetrating balls in the midfield. We didn’t get enough pressure on their center midfielders to take away their time and space.
“We got to try a lot of different formations today. We learned a lot about our team today, and certain things we need to work on.”
North Georgia returns to the fields in Hawaii on Wednesday afternoon against Hawaii Pacific University at 4:00 p.m. (HST). That contest closes out the preseason schedule for the Lady Saints, who open the regular season on the road at Limestone on August 24.
