ANOUNGA LEADS CLAYTON STATE OVER NORTH GEORGIA
Dahlonega, GA – Clayton State University used a pair of goals by Antoinette Anounga to defeat North Georgia College & State University 4-0, in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams.
The Lakers scored the game’s first goal in the 19th minute when Jennifer Winslett took a clear by the defense on the ride side of the pitch, and beat Lady Saints’ goalkeeper Mary Canon Williams to the far post for a 1-0 lead.
Clayton State scored again in the 33rd minute when Anounga struck for the first time. She took a cross from Bose Tanimola and poked it into the back of the net for a 2-0 lead. The Lakers struck again just two minutes later when Yasemin Sunbul finished a cross by Winslett for a 3-0 lead.
North Georgia battled Clayton State (1-2-0, 1-0 PBC) toe-to-toe in the second half, with both teams missing chances in the final 45 minutes. Lauren Cappy missed two attempts inside the 18-yard box for the Lady Saints in the second half.
Anounga struck for the final time in the 81st minute, taking a pass from Loretta Ashu on a breakaway and beat Lady Saints’ keeper Leigha Terry in a one-on-one situation for the game’s final goal.
North Georgia (2-2-1, 0-1 PBC) hosts Alabama-Huntsville on Sunday at 5 pm.
