#10 CLAYTON STATE DEFEATS NORTH GEORGIA 4-1
IN PEACH BELT OPENER
Morrow, GA - A trio of first half goals lifted the 10th-ranked Clayton State University women's soccer to a 4-1 Peach Belt Conference victory Saturday over North Georgia College & State University at Laker Field.
Clayton State raced out to a 1-0 lead nine minutes into the match as Nkese Udoh scored her fifth goal of the season on a header in the upper right of the net from five yards out. The score was set off a cross from Olaitan Yusuf. The Lakers pushed their lead to 2-0 in the 34th minute, as Haley Compretta scored a goal after North Georgia keeper Mary Canon-Williams came out to contest a cross from Udoh but missed leaving the goal open.
North Georgia cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 38th minute with Elizabeth Franklin scoring off a keeper deflection. Franklin first took a shot from point blank range that Clayton State keeper Judith Chime deflected only to have the ball ricochet right back to her, where she was able to get off a clean shot past Chime.
Clayton State extended its lead to 3-1 in the final 30 seconds of the half, as Yusuf carried a ball 30 yards and beat the keeper for a goal, her sixth of the season. The Lakers added a little insurance in the second half as Antoinette Anouga scored in the 48th minute on an unassisted play.
With the win, the Lakers improve to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the PBC on the season, while North Georgia drops to 0-4 and 0-2 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State will return to action on Monday, September 19th, traveling to face Erksine in a 7 p.m. match.
Clayton State outshot the Saints 24-11 in the match. Chime had five saves for the Lakers and Canon-Williams had nine for North Georgia.
