WINGATE WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS NORTH GEORGIA 4-0
Wingate, N.C. - Wingate University forwards Becca Noonan (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Caroline Harvischak (Palmetto, Ga.) had two goals each in a 4-0 NCAA Division II women's soccer victory over North Georgia College & State University Sunday afternoon at the Wingate University soccer facility.
Noonan was very busy, as she had the assist on both Harvischak goals. With the victory, Wingate improves to 8-4 overall. North Georgia falls to 0-9 overall on the year.
A junior, Noonan set up freshman Harvischak to get the scoring started in the 10th minute. Harvischak took Noonan's pass and scored on a blast from 15 yards out. In the 24th minute, Noonan scored on a breakaway that was set up on a through ball by sophomore midfielder Alexis Randazzo (Avon, Conn.).
Noonan completed the first half scoring in the 34th minute when she turned and fired a shot from 20 yards out past Saint sophomore goalkeeper Kelly Conarro (Atlanta, Ga.). Bulldog freshman midfielder Sarah Mackintosh (Niskayuna, N.Y.) picked up the assist on the play.
The lone second half goal came in the 55th minute. Harvischak converted another 15-yarder on a pass from Noonan. Harvischak has six goals this season, while Noonan scored her second and third of the 2005 campaign today.
Wingate freshman goalkeeper Kathryn Smith (Indian Trail, N.C.) had six saves to earn the shutout for the Bulldogs. For the visiting Saints, Conarro and sophomore Mary Canon-Williams (Hot Springs, Ark.) combined for five saves.
Wingate's next match will be at USC Aiken Tuesday at 7 p.m. North Georgia will visit Georgia Southwestern Wednesday at 2 p.m.
