BOBCATS TAKE LADY SAINTS 6-0 IN WOMEN'S SOCCER ACTION
Milledgeville, Ga. - Freshman Hayley Ferrell scored a pair of goals to help the Georgia College & State University women's soccer team roll to its seventh straight victory in a 6-0 win over North Georgia College & State University in a Peach Belt Conference match-up Sunday at Bobcat Field.
GC&SU improves to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the PBC, while North Georgia drops to 1-10 overall and 0-6 in the conference.
After a sluggish start, Tami Pissott put GC&SU on the board in the 12th minute with an assist from Natalie Thomas. Ferrell found the back of the net in the 30th minute with assists from Britni Emerson and Jessica McGinnis to put the Bobcats up 2-0 going into halftime. The shots were even at 11 a piece in the first half.
GC&SU took control of the match in the second half, out-shooting North Georgia 17-6 in the period. Sarah Plymale jump-started the offense with a goal less than a minute into the second half to give the Bobcats a comfortable 3-0 advantage. Ferrell would put the game away with an assist from Plymale in the 76th minute for a 4-0 Bobcat lead.
Freshman Amanda Traber tallied her first goal of the season in the 88th minute with an assist from Charlsey Thornton, and she assisted on a goal by fellow rookie Beth Coughlin less than a minute later to cap the scoring.
The Bobcats out-shot the Saints 28-17 for the game, while North Georgia held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
GC&SU goalkeeper Michelle Parr finished with nine saves while collecting her fourth complete game shutout. Kelly Conarro had 11 saves for North Georgia.
The Bobcats host UNC Pembroke in a Peach Belt Conference contest on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Lady Saints return to action on Wednesday as they host Armstrong Atlantic University at 5:00 p.m.
