NGCSU DEFEATS SHORTER 2-1
Dahlonega, Ga. - The Lady Saints outshot the Lady Hawks 12-5 and netted two goals to give North Georgia a 2-1 conference win Thursday afternoon at the North Georgia Soccer Complex.
In the first half it took 35 minutes for North Georgia freshman midfielder Brittany Bruner (Snellville, Ga.) to score the first goal of the match. Bruner headed in a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Meredith Lee (Lilburn, Ga.) to give the Lady Saints a 1-0 lead. The game was once again a defensive battle in the second half, but Lee picked up a goal off of a free kick in the 78th minute to give the Lady Saints a 2-0 lead. Just before the end of the match senior forward Laurainne Douglas (Malabar, Trinidad) scored to cut the North Georgia lead to one, but one minute later time expired on Shorter's comeback attempt.
The Lady Saints improve their record to 10-6-1 and 6-4-0 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. The Lady Hawks fall to 6-7-3 and 5-4-1- in the SSAC. Next up for North Georgia is a non-conference home match against Mars Hill College on October 19 at 5:00 pm. Shorter will visit Tennessee Wesleyan College tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm.
