LADY FLAMES DOWN NORTH GEORGIA 7-1
ROME, Ga. - Seven different players scored goals as the Lee University Lady Flames set a new school record for wins in a season (18) in defeating North Georgia, 7-1 in the semifinals of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament.
The high-powered offense saw senior Nadine McCorry tally the first goal 20 minutes deep into the victory. Jodie McGuckin and Amanda Harkins got the double assist. Less than two minutes later, McGuckin scored the second goal and Harkins picked up her second assist of the afternoon.
At the 33-minute mark, the count reached 3-0. Leanne Slater got the goal and the ever-present McGuckin collected her second assist. It was then time for Janaina Novaes to strike. The freshman made it 4-0 and Slater was there for the assist. The final score of the half came off the foot of Jennifer Towne. The score was unassisted and put Lee on top 5-0 at halftime.
North Georgia got its only score of the contest some 21 minutes deep into the second half. Cory Orear connected and it was a 5-1 match. Lee struck back on a goal at the 77-minute mark as senior Erlie Thelot drilled home a score. Sarah McCullough got the first of two assists on the day.
Senior Susan Wiechmann put the final marker on the board with some 10 minutes remaining. Lee took 40 shots in the easy win. Twenty-six of the shots were on target. North Georgia could get off only three shots with two being on target. Lee goalkeeper Caitlin Wohlander was credited with one save.
