AUM IS NEXT FOR LADY FLAMES
CLEVELAND, TN - In a warm-up match for a Saturday showdown with Auburn University at Montgomery, the Lee University Lady Flames handily defeated visiting North Georgia College & State University 7-0 on Thursday afternoon.
The victory pushed the 5th ranked Lady Flames record to 14-1 overall and 8-0 in Southern States Athletic Conference play. Saturday's battle will feature coach Matt Yelton's team against the NAIA's 7th ranked club. Both teams are undefeated in SSAC play.
"We didn't play that great this afternoon," admitted Yelton after the easy win. "I really expected that type of game. We know what we have facing us on Saturday and our girls are smart enough to realize that will be one of our biggest challenges of the season."
Lee zoomed out to a 5-0 halftime advantage against North Georgia. The Dahlonega based now stands at 8-5-1 overall and 4-3-0 in the SSAC. However, the Lady Saints got only two shots against the Lady Flames and only one shot was on goal. Reserve goalkeeper Sarah Denham had Lee's only save of the game. On the other hand, the rapid firing Lady Flames took 32 shots and 14 were on goal.
The contest featured the play of three seniors. Amanda Harkins, Amy Disko and Erlie Thelot had two goals each. Thelot, who now has 14 goals on the year moved into second place on Lee's career-scoring chart. Sophomore Sarah McCullough scored her 11th goal of the year in the romp.
Disko and Harkins joined Jodie McGuckin, Marie Exume, Janaina Novaes, Jennifer Towne and Sierra Willoughby with the other assists.
The Lady Flames will depart for Montgomery, Ala. and the key matchup with AUM on Friday afternoon.
