North Georgia Women's Soccer Slips Past GC&SU in Second Overtime

Milledgeville, Ga. – Sarah Hales slipped through a couple of defenders and scored the game winning goal in the second overtime to lift North Georgia College & State University to a 1-0 victory over Georgia College & State University Sunday afternoon at Bobcat Field. Hales, a sophomore from Cumming, GA, scored her first goal of the season in the 102nd minute to
snap GC&SU’s three game win streak.

After a scoreless first half, GC&SU (4-2) had an apparent go-ahead goal called off midway through the second half on a controversial offside penalty to keep the game knotted at 0-0. The two teams matched each other with 12 shots apiece in regulation, but North Georgia (4-2-1) out-shot the Bobcats 7-1 in the overtime periods. Hales’ slipped the game-winner past
GC&SU goalkeeper Michelle Parr after sneaking past a pair of defenders almost unopposed.

Parr (4-2) finished with five saves for the Bobcats, while North Georgia’s Kelly Conarro (4-1) registered six saves. The Lady Saints out-shot the Bobcats 19-13 for the game, while GC&SU held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.

The Bobcats host Montevallo on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in a game that was added to the schedule late due to cancellations caused by inclement weather. North Georgia will host SSAC opponent Brewton-Parker College on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. in Dahlonega.
