2004LAKERS STORM PAST LADY SAINTS 5-1

Dahlonega, Ga. – Freshman forward Olaita Yusuf (Ilorin, Kwara, Nigeria) scored two goals to lead Clayton College & State University (2-0-0) past North Georgia College & State University (2-1-0) in Thursday night soccer action.

The Lady Saints drew first blood in the match when freshman midfielder Kelly Orear (Dahlonega, Ga.) knocked a deflection into the net to give North Georgia a 1-0 lead early in the first half. The Lakers quickly responded quickly though, and senior forward Nkiru Okosieme (Onitsha, Nigergia) cut through the Lady Saints defense and blasted a shot into the net.

Clayton's next goal knocked off of a North Georgia defender next to the goal and went in for an own goal to make the score 3-1. Yusuf scored her first goal of the match in the 26 th minute when she knocked in a 15 yard shot inside the box. Freshman forward Lauren Burch (Jonesboro, Ga.) made a nice chip over the goalies head to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Lakers. Olaitan finished off the scoring in the match in the 44 th minute when she received a pass from freshman forward Jennifer Winslette (Douglasville, Ga.) and broke through the North Georgia defense.

Clayton out shot the Lady Saints 13-8 and had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman goal keeper Kelly Conarro (Atlanta, Ga.) tallied two saves and gave her first goals of the season. Lakers junior goal keeper Judith Chime (Enugu, Nigeria) made three saves while allowing only one goal.

Clayton will face Presbyterian College on September 5 at 2:00 pm in Morrow. The Lady Saints will be back in action this weekend as they head up to Aiken, S.C. to challenge USC-Aiken at 2:00 pm on September 4.
