HENSELER SCORES TWICE AS No. 23 LADY VIKINGS
TOP NORTH GEORGIA 4-0
Berry Wins Third Straight And Stays Undefeated In Southern States
MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Maren Henseler scored a pair of goals to lead Berry
College to its third straight win, a 4-0 victory over North Georgia College
and State University in a Southern States Athletic Conference women's soccer
match at Ford Soccer Field in Mount Berry Saturday.
Berry (7-2 overall, 4-0 SSAC) took a close match and blew it wide open
just before halftime. Leading 1-0 on Becky Ferguson's 30-yard blast into
the upper left corner of the net on a free kick in the 27th minute, the Lady
Vikings scored twice in the final three minutes of the first half. That was
when both members of Berry's tandem scoring threat found the net, as
Henseler scored in the 43rd minute and Audrey Fonnegra pushed in a pass from
Haley Burke in the half's final minute.
Henseler finished off the afternoon's scoring with a 63rd minute goal,
when she headed in Lisa Lifton's cross from the right side, making the score
4-0.
The Lady Vikings dominated possession, firing 41 shots in the match,
including 18 shots on goal. North Georgia took just three shots, with one
coming on goal.
Berry goalkeepers Nicole Heidler, Kimberly Sorrells and Sharon Miller
shared the shutout. Heidler played the entire first half, while Sorrells
played the first 26 minutes of the second half before giving way to Miller
for the final 19 minutes. Sorrells was the only Berry 'keeper to face a
shot, coming away with the team's lone save.
North Georgia (5-3-1, 3-1-0) goalkeeper Kelly Connarro racked up 14
saves.
The Lady Vikings are scheduled to return to action Tuesday, when they
travel to Montgomery, Ala., to face seventh-ranked Auburn-Montgomery. North Georgia will also return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Due West, SC, to face Erskine College.
