LADY SAINTS RUN BY USC AIKEN
Second half run fuels efforts
Dahlonega, GA – North Georgia College & State University closed out USC Aiken with a late second half run en route to a 71-60 victory over USC Aiken in Peach Belt Conference action at Memorial Hall.
After falling behind 47-46 with 7:41 remaining, the Lady Saints went on a 10-1 run over the next 3:06 to take a commanding a 56-49 lead with 4:16 remaining. Junior Kourtney Singleton started the run with two free throws to pull North Georgia within a point, at 49-48 with 6:46 remaining in the contest.
The Lady Saints took the lead for good on the next possession when Rachel Jolley connected on two free throws to give North Georgia a 50-49 lead with 6:27 remaining. The lead would extend to 52-49 when Jolley was able to hit a lay-up after a pass from Singleton at the top of the key. The lead was pushed even further when Singleton connected on a short jumper with 4:35 remaining to take a 54-49 lead. The run came to an end when Syretha Marble was able to get free for a lay-up and extend the lead to 56-49 with 4:16 remaining.
The lead was stay as large as 13 before the end of the game.
North Georgia shot 43.9 (25-for-57) percent from the floor and 38.5 (5-for-13) percent from behind the arc. They also shot 72.7 (16-for-22) percent from the free throw line.
USC Aiken shot just 39.7 (25-for-63) percent from the floor, and 29.4 (5-for-17) from behind the arc. They also shot 83.3 (5-for-6) percent from the free throw line.
Meredith Legg paced USC Aiken with 12 points off the bench, while Mindy Allee added 11 and Avonte Williams 10.
Singleton led North Georgia with 26 points off the bench on 10-of-17 shooting from the floor. Marble chipped in with 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor and a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc. Megan Huffman chipped in with 11 in the victory.
North Georgia (10-12, 5-7 PBC) travels to Florence on Saturday to take on Francis Marion.
