LADY SAINTS FALL IN WANING SECONDS
Singleton scores 28 in losing effort
Montevallo, AL – Malissa Harris' lay-up with 24 seconds remaining gave Montevallo the lead, and the Falcons held on for a 79-76 victory over visiting North Georgia College & State University here Saturday afternoon.
Leading 76-75, and with the ball, North Georgia turned the ball over with 32 seconds remaining, which led to the winning basket. The turnover led to the Harris basket that gave the Falcons a 77-76 lead.
The Lady Saints had a chance to take the lead back in the final ten seconds following the lay-up, but missed a pair of opportunities. The Falcons sealed the game when Trellice Moore connected on two free throws with just two seconds remaining.
North Georgia shot 39 (23-for-59) percent from the floor for game, including shooting 41.2 (7-for-17) percent from behind the arc. The Lady Saints shot only 65.7 (23-for-35) percent from the free throw line in the loss.
Meanwhile, Montevallo shot 41.7 (25-for-60) percent from the floor, and 33.3 (4-for-12) from behind the arc. The Falcons shot 73.5 (25-for-34) from the free throw line.
Kourtney Singleton led all scorers with 28 points on 9-for-14 shooting from the floor and 9-for-11 shooting from the free throw line. Megan Huffman scored 13 points and 10 rebounds, while Syretha Marble and Rachael Jolley each added 10 points.
Moore led Montevallo with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Harris chipped in 14 points and eight rebounds. Jay Clay added 13 points 11 rebounds, while Jennifer Hendricks added 12 and Stefanie Durant added 11 in the victory.
North Georgia (2-3) returns to action on Friday against Claflin University. The game is set for 3 pm at Memorial Hall.
