UPSET BID FALLS SHORT ON THE ROAD
Lady Saints lead by as many as six on the road, four players in double figures

Cleveland, MS – The North Georgia College & State University Lady Saints fell short in their upset bid, falling 63-56 to 13th-ranked Delta State on the road Monday night.

The Lady Saints fought Delta State from the tip to the final buzzer, leading by as many as six points in the second half. With the teams trading baskets in the first half, Syretha Marble scored the Lady Saints' final five points of the first half to pull even with Delta State at intermission, 30-30.

North Georgia (3-4) led by as many as six points early in the second half following a jumper by Kourtney Singleton and a pair of free throws from Megan Huffman and Lindsey Kitchens. The 6-0 run gave the Lady Saints a 40-34 lead with 14:34 remaining in the contest.

The Lady Saints shot 28.8 (15-for-52) percent from the floor for the game. They were able to keep the defensive battle close by shooting 84.6 (22-for-26) percent from the free throw line.

Meanwhile, North Georgia held Delta State to 43.4 (23-for-53) percent from the floor and held the Lady Statesmen without a three-point field goal (0-for-7) on the night.

Renita Jones led all scorers with 16 points for Delta State (4-1), as she went 6-for-6 from the floor in the victory. Courtney Wilson was the only other player for Delta State in double figures with 13 points and eight rebounds.

Marble, Singleton and Huffman all poured in 12 points for North Georgia on the night. Marble, a sophomore forward, also posted a game-high 10 rebounds. Kitchens added a season-high 11 points in the loss. Huffman also posted a game-high two blocked shots.

North Georgia returns to action Saturday as they host Georgia College & State University in a non-conference match-up at Memorial Hall. The game is set for 3 pm.
