NORTH GEORGIA BLASTS RIO PIEDRAS 102-31
St. Leo, Fla. – Scoring 194 points in a two game span, the North Georgia College & State University women's basketball team upended the University of Puerto Rico 102-31 in the final day of the Sleep Inn Classic.
The Lady Saints (2-0) held Rio Piedras to only 15 points in the first half and 16 in the second as six different North Georgia players scored in double figures. Senior post Lara Seamon led the Lady Saints attack for the second straight night with 20 points. Senior guard Katie Williamson was right behind her with 17 points after going 3-of-4 from behind the arc. Sophomore post Rachael Jolley came off the bench and added 14 points and eight rebounds along with freshman guard Syretha Marble who had 11 points with six steals.
Karla Ruiz led the UPR squad with 11 points and four rebounds. Rio Piedras falls to 0-2 on the season.
The Lady Saints will be back in action this weekend as they face old NAIA and SSAC rivals Reinhardt College and Brewton-Parker College on Friday and Saturday night in the Alltel Classic hosted by NGCSU. Peach Belt Conference member Augusta State University will also take place in the tournament this weekend with games at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Friday and 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
