WILLIAMSON NAMED KODAK/WBCA ALL-AMERICA TEAM HONORABLE MENTION FOR DIVISION II
Atlanta, Ga. – Senior guard Katie Williamson was named a Kodak/WBCA All America Team Mention for NCAA Division II on March 22, 2006.
Williamson led the Lady Saints this year in three categories that included points per game (14.8), Assist per game (3.5), and minutes per game (32.5). Williamson was selected to the Peach Belt Conference All Conference Team as she led her team to a near perfect 19-1 in the conference. “This year’s Kodak/WBCA All-America team truly represents the top of the crop in the women’s basketball Division II level,” said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. “We congratulate these student-athletes for their hard work and determination in making women’s basketball even more exciting to watch.”
Averaging a career high 14.8 points per game this season, Williamson scored 1656 points in her career as a Lady Saint and holds the program record for free throw percentage (.882) in a career and broke her own single season record in free throw percentage this season (.919). Head Coach Buffie Burson committed, “Katie is a winner and just hates to loose. At the end of games, she takes all the big shots and keeps us in every ballgame.”
Williamson only missed one game in her career and led North Georgia to a 109-24 overall record during that time. Burson added, “Katie is going 110% at all times and that makes everyone else want to do that too.”
Williamson has maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA in her four-year career as a Lady Saint and has led the team to four conference championships, most recently the 2006 Peach Belt Conference Championship. She has also won three conference tournament championships and led North Georgia to three NAIA National Tournament appearances.
