BPC SHAKES OFF ASU 76-70 IN SECOND GAME OF ALLTEL CLASSIC
Dahlonega, Ga . – Augusta State University climbed out of a 13-point half time deficit, but could not out run Brewton-Parker College as the Lady Barons defeated the Lady Jaguars 76-70 in the second game of the Alltel Classic hosted by NGCSU.
ASU (1-3) found themselves in a 20-7 hole 14 minutes into the game as BPC (7-2) came out on fire. With 9:43 left in the half, senior guard Dannisha Winfrey flew down the court on a fast break and slipped the ball in to give the Lady Barons their largest lead of the half at 32-12. The Lady Jaguars fought back for the next nine minutes and were able to cut the lead to 37-24 heading into the locker room.
In the second half, ASU raced out with a 14-0 run in the first five minutes to go up 38-37, taking their first lead of the game. The Lady Jaguars were only able to hold onto the lead for a couple of minutes before the Lady Barons grabbed the lead for good off of a jumper from senior forward Tamika Drinks-Holloway . BPC climbed out to a 12 point lead at the 8:25 mark, but ASU went on another 9-0 run to cut the lead to three and make the score 60-57 with 5:46 remaining in the game. The Lady Barons took flight again, and riding 13 points from Winfrey in the second half, BPC was able to overcome the Lady Jaguars 76-70.
Winfrey led PBC with 22 points followed by Drinks-Holloway and senior guard Trivia Richardson with 14 each. Senior forward Eva Vodrazkova finished the game with 15 points followed by sophomore guard Jamica Wyatt who had 12 as well as junior forward Shirell Ford who chipped in 10.
Both of these two teams play again tomorrow in the second half of the 2005 Alltel Classic. ASU will face Reinhardt College at 2:00 p.m. followed by BPC taking on North Georgia College & State University at 4:00 p.m.
