UNION EARNS BIG WIN IN BATTLE OF RANKED TEAMS
JACKSON, Tenn. - The Union University Lady Bulldogs, ranked 4th in the NAIA, improved to 3-0 on the season as they defeated North Georgia College & State University 89-68 . North Georgia, ranked 7th in the NAIA, falls to 2-1 on the year.
Union came into this game have shot over 50% from the field and over 40% from behind the arc during their first two wins. Tonight, the Lady Bulldogs posted 89 points by shooting 84 times, just 11 attempts shy of the team record. Union shot 40% (34-84) from the field and 18% (4-22) from behind the arc. Once again, the bulk of Union's offense came from All-American Stephanie Clark as she posted her third double-double of the season with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Ena Daniels added 12 points for Union. For the third time this season, all but one Lady Bulldog scored in the game.
For North Georgia, three players scored in double figures led by Rachael Jolley with 16 points. Brandi Owen and Megan Huffman tallied 15 and 13 points respectively. North Georgia shot 44% from the field (23-53), including 40% (2-5) from behind the arc.
One of the big differences in this game was on the offensive boards where Union outrebounded North Georgia 23-9. Eleven of Clark's 15 rebounds came on the offensive side.
Next up for the Lady Saints is their first home game of the season. North Georgia takes on Claflin University Thursday at 6:00 pm in Memorial Gymnasium.
