#7 LADY SAINTS ROLL PAST BEES 92-69 IN FIRST GAME OF CARUSO'S CLASSIC
Dahlonega, Ga. - Senior forward Brandi Owen (Cornelia, Ga.) scored a season high 25 points and junior guard Katie Williamson (Suwanee, Ga.) added 21 more to lead North Georgia College & State University to a 92-69 win over Savannah College of Art and Design Friday night.
The Lady Saints (4-3) came out on fire as they lead 28 to six nine minutes into the first half. Owen was all over the court as she scored nine points, came down with four rebounds, and added two assists in the first nine minutes of the ball game. The Lady Saints broke out to their largest lead of the first half at the 6:07 mark when senior forward Katie Schleisman (Suwanee, Ga.) sunk a bucket to put North Georgia up 44-14. The Bees (3-6) did not quit though, and by the end of the first half SCAD had cut the lead to 16 with a field goal from sophomore guard Rachel Hennon (Dalton, Ga.).
Five minutes into the second half the Lady Saints had stretched their lead back to 20 points and with 8:58 to go a couple of free throws by Schleisman gave North Georgia its largest lead of the game and a 81-50 lead. A three point by senior guard Rachel Breiner (Miami Beach, Fla.) cut the lead to 18, but that was the closest the Bees could get to the Lady Saints as time expired.
Next up for SCAD is a date with undefeated Brewton-Parker College tomorrow at 2:00 in the third game of Caruso's Classic. The afternoon game features the six and seventh ranked teams in the nation as #6 Freed-Hardamen University takes on #7 North Georgia at 4:00 pm in the final game of the classic.
