LADY SAINTS TAKE DOWN LADY LIONS 60-47 IN SSAC ACTION

Dahlonega, Ga. - After overcoming an Emmanuel College first half attack, North Georgia College & State University cruised to a 60-47 win Monday night to close out the 2004 year. With the win, the Lady Saints improve to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

In the first ten minutes of the game it looked as if the Lady Saints might blow out the Lady Lions. With 12:15 left in the half North Georgia had a comfortable 16-3 lead after going on a nine point run capped off by a steal and layup from senior guard Katie Williamson (Suwanee, Ga.). Williamson went 3-5 from the field and 2-4 from behind the arc to lead the Lady Saints in the first half.

Emmanuel College did not quit though, and with 9:26 left on the clock in the first they began their comeback. A trio of three point baskets in four minute time span cut the North Georgia lead to seven. Junior guard LeAnn Sergers (Hartwell, GA) made two of the three from behind the arc and led the Lady Lions comeback in the first half with eight points. With time waning in the first half, Emmanuel continued to chip away at the Lady Saints lead until they tied the game with nine seconds left on the clock. Junior wing Hannah Daniel (Marietta, Ga.) sunk the tying jumper to even the score 27-27 heading into the locker room.

As the second half began, North Georgia went on a 6-0 run to extend its lead to 33-27. Emmanuel clawed back once again though and cut the lead to 33-31 off of a putback from freshman forward Felecia Towler (Bogart, Ga.). With 15:48 to go in the game, the Lady Lions never go any closer than two as the Lady Saints went on a 12-0 run to extend their lead to 13.

North Georgia had its biggest lead of the night off of Williamsons 33 consecutive made free throw. Williamson has not missed a free throw since the Lady Saints game against Dominican University on October 20. She currently is shooting 56-57 from the charity stripe, good for an average of 98.2%. Williams also lead all scorers for the Lady Saints with 16 points.

Rounding out the top scorers for the Lady Saints were senior forward Katie Schleisman (Suwanee, GA), who scored 12 for North Georgia, and freshman post Rachael Jolley (Covington, Ga.) who scored 11 in 20 minutes of action.

With the loss, the Lady Lions overall record falls to an even 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the conference. Emmanuel will play their first game of the new year at home on January 6 against Shorter College at 6:00 p.m. North Georgia's first opponent of 2005 will #1 Union University at home on January 4 at 6:00 p.m.
