LADY SAINTS FINISH RANKED NINTH
Dahlonega, Ga. – In the final rankings released by the NAIA National Office this week, the Lady Saints of North Georgia College & State University ended the year ranked ninth overall.
The Lady Saints are coming off of their fourth straight conference tournament championship last week and won their third straight regular season conference title. Posted earlier today, North Georgia is also one of the 32 teams who will continue playing in the NAIA National Tournament, which begins in one week. Brackets will be posted this afternoon by the National Office for seeding in the tournament and the Lady Saints first opponent.
After falling to North Georgia in the finals of the conference tournament, Brewton-Parker College dropped one spot to number 14 in the final rankings. The Lady Baron's only three losses this season came at the hands of the Lady Saints. Lee University jumped one spot from 24th to 23rd this week even though North Georgia eliminated the Lady Flames in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Reinhardt College received two votes for the poll after advancing to the semifinals of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament and losing to BPC. North Georgia, Lee, and BPC all received bids to the NAIA National Tournament earlier today.
Cumberland College in Kentucky knocked Oklahoma Baptist from the final poll and moved into the 21st spot after winning the Mid-South Conference Tournament. Oklahoma Baptist still qualified for the National Tournament with an at-large bid after falling out of the poll.
Houston Baptist looks to hold the number one seed heading into the tournament after keeping the top spot in the poll for the fifth straight week and receiving nine first place votes. Vanguard held on to second place with 290 points and three first place votes. Oklahoma City moved up one spot in the final poll to finish in third overall.
The NAIA women's basketball National Tournament will be held in Jackson, Tenn. at Oman Arena for the 15th straight year. First round action begins on March 16 with the championship game on March 22.
