LADY SAINTS HEADING TO NAIA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

Dahlonega, Ga. – The Lady Saints are once again heading to Jackson, Tenn. North Georgia College & State University women's team won their third consecutive regular season championship and their fourth straight tournament championship in rout to sealing up their seventh consecutive trip to the National Tournament.

“I have never had a team that's gotten along so well,” says head coach Buffie Burson. She adds, “The Chemistry has just been there. What made us good in the end is what happened in the beginning (of the season),” referring to the loss of junior forward Kimberlyn Love (Austell, Ga.) and the four early losses this year. When asked what made this team special and directed them to the championship Burson said, “Everybody had the vision of winning the championship.”

The Lady Saints swept through the SSAC Tournament and defeated Brewton-Parker College 77-68 in the tournament finals last Saturday night, their third win this season over the Lady Barons and only BPC's third loss this season. The Lady Saints are ranked ninth in the nation and went 25-7 this season and 18-2 in conference to win their third straight conference championship. Over the past four years, the women's program has an amazing record of 112-26, good for a .812 winning percentage over that four year time span.

Later this afternoon the NAIA will announce the brackets for this year's tournament and game time for North Georgia's first game. The Lady Saints will head out Sunday as they ride to Jackson, Tennessee and you can keep up with all the action on your radio flagship for North Georgia basketball, WKHC 104.3 FM and via webcast on www.naia.org.
