SAINTS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER WITH TROJANS
North Georgia returns home for a pair of PBC series this weekend

Game 1 | Game 2

MOUNT OLIVE, NC – North Georgia College & State University dropped game one 3-0 and were shutout for the first time this season, but rebounded in game two for a 4-2 victory Wednesday afternoon at Mount Olive College in non-conference action.

With a scoreless game headed to the bottom of the sixth, MOC’s Jenny Jackson broke the scoreless tie and capped a two-out rally with a three-run homer to give the Trojans the only runs of the contest.

Kasey Knight broke up Jackson’s no-hit bid with a leadoff single up the middle in the top of the sixth and Tiffany Blackburn followed with a single through the left side but the Saints could mount no further damage.

North Georgia threatened again in their last at-bat in the top of the seventh as Natasha Willemse looped a single just inside the left field line to lead off the inning. After a force out, Meigan Grimm reached on an infield single when the ball took a tricky bounce between the mound and the plate. A walk loaded the bases, but the Saints ended the game with the bases loaded and left eight runners on base over the final three innings.

Sarah Phillip struck out five and finished with a five-hitter to suffer her third loss of the season and drop to 8-3, while Jackson did the job at the plate and on the mound, striking out seven for the complete game shutout.

In game two, North Georgia jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Stephanie Farmakis hit a one-out triple to left-center and scored on Blackburn’s single.

After both teams added a pair of runs in the fifth, North Georgia loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth and Heidi Cranford came home on a wild pitch to give the Saints a 4-2 win.

Nicole Adkison (4-0) retired the side in order in the sixth and worked around Cahoon’s one-out single in the seventh for the win. Adkison retired eight of the final nine batters she faced and allowed just one earned run while striking out two in the complete game.

North Georgia (17-5) will return home to host four straight PBC games over the weekend with a USC Aiken double header set for Friday at 4:00 p.m. and the 2nd-ranked GCSU Bobcats will come to town Saturday afternoon for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
