SAINTS SPLIT PBC DOUBLE HEADER WITH CSU
North Georgia opens conference schedule

Game 1 | Game 2

COLUMBUS, GA – North Georgia College & State University took game one 7-3, but lost the nightcap 6-5 in walk-off fashion to the Lady Cougars of Columbus State Tuesday evening in Peach Belt Conference action.

In the opener, North Georgia Jumped out on top with four runs in the first inning on just two hits. Courtney McGuire’s two-run double plated the first two runs of the game and three CSU errors led to a pair of runs in the Saints four spot in the opening frame.

CSU got on the board in the second inning with three singles.  Bullard led off with a single, Thompson singled with one-out, and Cooper scored Bullard with an RBI single to left field.

Each team scored two runs in the third inning as North Georgia took a 6-3 lead into the fourth inning.  Kaelin Farrington then added insurance for the Saints with a solo homer that chased CSU starter Ashley Chastain in the fourth inning as North Georgia captured a 7-3 win in the opener.

Phillips (6-2) got the win for the Saints, allowing three runs on 12 hits while striking out two.  McGuire led the saints at the plate with a 3-for-4, two RBI performance, while Laura Voyles went 2-for-3 from the lead-off spot.

In game two, the Saints grabbed the early lead once again as Tiffany Blackburn and Jessica Skeels notched RBI hits for a first inning 2-0 lead.

The Cougars would counter with a four spot in the second inning, but North Georgia came right back in the fifth and took advantage of two CSU errors and used another RBI hit from Blackburn as three runs came across to give the Saints a 5-4 lead.

The Lady Cougars added a single run in the sixth to tie the game, and brought home the game-winning run home on a wild pitch to take a 6-5 game two win to split a double-header with the Saints.

North Georgia (13-3, 1-1 PBC) will return to action March 13, at home against Adelphi for a 4:00 p.m. double-header start.
