SAINTS SWEEP DOUBLE HEADER FROM ADELPHI
North Georgia moves to a perfect 8-0 at home
Game 1 | Game 2
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College & State University came out ready to play in their first home series in two weeks and gave the fans an 8-3 win in game one and 7-4 victory in game two as they swept the Panthers of Adelphi University Thursday afternoon in non-conference action.
In game one, another solid pitching performance from freshman Sarah Phillips (8-2) led the way for the Saints as she went the distance, allowing just three hits and two earned runs while striking out four.
Tiffany Blackburn led the charge at the plate, recording three hits in four appearances while driving in a run. A balanced scoring attack was the story for North Georgia in the opener as seven Saints notched RBI's and the team scored in the five of their six at-bats for the 8-3 win.
The Panthers recorded three hits, including a pair of solo home runs from Jessica Vogt in the second inning and Deandre Leo in the seventh.
In game two, Adelphi took the early lead on a double by Katie Brophy to bring Christine Robinson home for a 1-0 lead.
North Georgia's Leslee Smith got the Saints right back into the game with a one-out solo home run to left-center to tie the game at 1-1. Smith came to the plate again with the game still knotted at one in the fourth inning and drilled her second consecutive home run, again to left-center, to plate Courtney McGuire and give North Georgia the 3-1 advantage.
The Saints would break the game wide open in the fifth with a three spot on the board, thanks to a two-run blast off the bat of Blackburn to make it a 6-1 lead.
The Panthers would not go away however, and pushed three runs across on a bases-loaded double from Diana Dipiano to clear the bases, but the Saints shut the door in the seventh to claim the second game of the double header 7-4 and complete the two-game sweep.
Trish Snider (4-1) picked up the win in the nightcap, tossing a complete game and allowing six hits and four earned runs while striking out three.
North Georgia (15-3, 1-1 PBC) will will host second-ranked GCSU Saturday afternoon at the Softball Complex for a key conference double header set for a 2:00 p.m. start.
