North Georgia to practice today in preparation for 4:00 p.m. game tomorrow

Tournament Bracket | Official Tournament Website

DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia softball team left Dahlonega yesterday afternoon and traveled to Pembroke, North Carolina, arriving last night for their first-ever NCAA Division II Softball Regional.

The Saints will practice today in preparation for their first round match up against Lenoir-Rhyne, who have faced some familier opponants this season. The Bears are 8-5 against Peach Belt Conference teams in 2008, including losses to Augusta State, Francis Marion, and GCSU, teams that North Georgia have a record of 7-4 against.

During the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, Tiffany Blackburn, Sarah Phillips, and Leslee Smith all stepped up and were named to the All-Tournament for their outstanding performances. Blackburn and Smith combined for 15 hits and 11 runs batted in, while Phillips pitched in her first college postseason, tossing 39.3 innings with 39 strikeouts and three wins.

These three and more will looked to for production as North Georgia faces the best teams in the nation for a spot in the NCAA Division II Softball Championships.

All the action will get started Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. with #3 Lenoir-Rhyne taking on #6 North Georgia in the third game of the day.
